UNMATA Improvisational Tribal Style Bellydance (ITS)

Level 2 @ 7:30-8:30PM (15 weeks - £67) - 10/01-09/05  (no class 21/02, 11/04, 18/04)

Level 1 @ 8:35-9:35PM (7 weeks - £32) - 07/03-02/05 (no class 11/04, 18/04)

 

Looking for a class that will be fun, high energy, challenging and engaging? Then this is the class for you!

 

Improvisational Tribal Style Bellydance (ITS) was created at Hot Pot Studio in Sacramento, USA by Amy Sigil (UNMATA). You will learn two sets of vocabulary - fast and slow - and string them together in cued improvised bellydance sequences. Smart, fast paced and exciting - be prepared to sweat and be a team player! No dance experience necessary.

 

Level 1 of this format works over an 7 week cycle - to get the best of understanding it is recommended that participants complete Level 1 for at least three cycles before moving up to Level 2. The format of 7 week cycles means you can join the class at any time, as all movements will be covered again in the following 7 week cycle.

 

Please note, everyone starts at Level 1 unless you have passed a Level 1 ITS test with another teacher.

Mat Pilates - All Levels

7-8PM (6 weeks - £32, Drop In £6.50) - 01/03-04/04

 

Pilates is a great way to tone up, improve your posture and core strength and create length in the body. Pilates offers something for everyone - a challenging workout, a focused practice and a steady development of body awareness and inner strength. You will see noticeable improvements in your daily life and posture.

 

Class consists of a warm up mobilising the joints and preparing the body for movement, the main phase where you will learn several Pilates exercises, and a cool down and relaxation phase preparing you to re-enter your day.

 

What to bring: You will need a suitable mat - Yoga, Piiates or exercise mat will be ideal.

West Coast Vintage Bellydance with finger cymbals

8-9PM (6 weeks - £32, Drop In £6.50) - 01/03-04/04

 

Join Alexis for an ongoing week class series of old school West Coast Vintage bellydance! This is the earthy, juicy style of bellydance from 1970's California. Think strong twists, fancy footwork and elegant arm patterns. Expect technique drills that are sure to work up a sweat and burn plenty of calories, with added finger cymbal training so characteristic of the style. We will dance - A LOT!

 

Inspired by Alexis' studies of Jamila Salimpour format and her training with first and second generations of Jamila's students. This style is energetic, full of earthy glamour and beautiful to watch - so try it out!

Dance and Body Conditioning

02/03-06/04 @ 10-11AM (6 weeks - £25, Drop In £5)

 

A body conditioning class focusing on strengthening and lengthening the muscles. This class draws on Alexis' background in fitness, taking exercises from Pilates, Yoga, floor-barre, body-weight training and more. Strengthen the core, abs, upper body and legs, and increase your flexibility. This is an all levels class suitable for dancers and non-dancers alike, but will be especially beneficial for dancers. Whether you want to touch your toes or do the splits, we will work on exercises to suit your goals.

 

Class size is limited to three people. Studio address will be given upon completion of payment.

Beginner-Intermediate Tribal Fusion

02/03-06/04 @ 11AM-12PM (6 weeks - £25, Drop In £5)

 

Not your stereotypical bellydance style! Tribal Fusion is a contemporary form of bellydance that began in San Francisco. Incorporating elements of classical bellydance, with roots in American Tribal Style, Tribal Fusion fuses bellydance with vocabulary from hip hop, ballet, jazz, flamenco and more. Strong in carriage, the style is characterised by liquid waves and undulations, contrasted by crispy, sharp and precise muscular isolations.

 

This class will breakdown the fundamental technique behind the dance style and string it together with dance combinations to get you moving. You will learn correct dance posture, body isolations and waves, arm patterns and basic foot patterns, with challenge increasing as we go.

 

Class size is limited to three people. Studio address will be given upon completion of payment.

Alexis Southall is a professional Pilates, Tribal Fusion and ITS bellydance teacher and performer based in Wolverhampton. She is known for her deep curves, seamless flow and speedy precise accents. Known for her generous, warm and inspirational teaching style, she has been praised for her precise technique, flawless musicality and innovative choreographies and improvisations.

 

She has studied Tribal Fusion extensively with teachers such as Zoe Jakes, Samantha Emanuel and Kami Liddle, and ITS with Amy Sigil and UNMATA.
